Hi,
Could you please specify, which FPGA development board to buy, it will be easier, if i use the same board as used in the course, please provide the part number.
Is the board used Spartan 6 ? XC6SLX9-2TQG144C ?
Hi Vasan,
The board we use with ISE is a custom production board from our company and isn’t publicly available. However, you can use any simple development board you have access to. If possible, I’d recommend choosing one based on the Spartan-6 LX9.
That said, please note that you can learn and practice most of the course material without an FPGA board, so it’s not a requirement to have one upfront.
I have BASYS3 FPGA board. It looks like it is not compatible with ISE
Yes, Malek. The BASYS3 uses an Artix 7 FPGA, which works only with Vivado. But that shouldn’t be an issue because (1) the board is excellent for learning and practicing FPGA design, and (2) you can complete most of the course material using the software tools and simulations alone. When you reach the final module, where we cover Vivado, you can then use your board to do the practical exercises.
Should I want to have hardware at hand to work with ISE I found a 60 euro board on aliexpress Spartan6 LX16 complete with usb blaster JTAG programmer: could it be a reasonable choice?
